| Notes Was invited to be Mayor of Stockport according to Arthur E Lee as told by his father Arthur C Lee.
There is alleged to be a photo of Arthur C Lee and Thomas T Lee taken at a Mayor's Ball they attended in Vernon Park Stockport Museum. Thomas was in charge of the widening of the Stockport Viaduct (1887-9) - the first rail tracks were built in 1840. You can distinguish the 1889 arches from those built earlier. With 2 others he formed a company (Williams Lee and Thomas) to complete the construction of the Standege Tunnel (Stalybridge to Huddersfield) sometime in the early 1890s. The tunnel is 4888m (3m 66y) and dated 5th Aug 1894. It is known that he also worked on Crewe station (AEL) and the construction of Manchester Town Hall (ACL). He built a house in Glenville Street Edgeley from which Elizabeth Lee was married. She travelled to church by Horse and Carriage . Thomas was a prominent Conservative in Stockport. The Head and Curb stone to the grave of the children of Thomas and Jane Lee was bought from a Charles Penney of 18 Lord Street Stockport on 2nd June 1897 for the sum of £13-12-0. The grave is in the churchyard of Christ Church, Wellington Road, Heaton Norris, Stockport and contains the several children who died at a very yound age. Thomas and Jane are the last to be placed in the grave. |
Notes Jane lived with Arthur C Lee and children from 1912 until she died in 1928. AEL was very attached to her. | ||||||||||||||||||||
